The Useful Kia & Hyundai Feature I Wish I Had Discovered Sooner
The Useful Kia & Hyundai Feature I Wish I Had Discovered Sooner
There are some features in modern cars that you use every single day. You know where they are, you know exactly what they do, and you probably couldn’t imagine having a car without them.
Then there are those little features that somehow remain hidden in plain sight.
You might own your car for months or even years before discovering them.
That was pretty much my experience with my Hyundai.
I consider myself someone who pays attention to the features and little details in my car, but even then, there are things that can easily go unnoticed. One particular feature surprised me because of how simple and useful it is, especially during the summer months when I’m spending more time driving.
It isn't the kind of feature that is going to completely change the way you drive. It won't make your car faster, improve fuel economy, or replace your favourite driving technology.
But once you know it is there, you may find yourself using it much more often than you expected.
And the best part?
It can be useful in both summer and winter.
In this article, I want to share my personal experience with this feature, where I found it in my Hyundai, how I use it, and why I think it is one of those small conveniences that more Kia and Hyundai owners should know about.
If you prefer watching rather than reading, I have also explained exactly where to find the feature and how I use it in my YouTube video, so you can see it working for yourself rather than just reading my explanation.
A Feature I Didn't Expect to Find
One of the interesting things about modern Kia and Hyundai vehicles is just how many features are built into them.
When you buy a new car, the sales brochure might highlight the big things.
You hear about the infotainment system, heated seats, wireless charging, parking cameras, adaptive cruise control, driver assistance systems, panoramic roofs and all the other features that sound impressive when you're choosing a car.
But some of the most useful features can be surprisingly ordinary.
That's exactly how I feel about this one.
I first became interested in it because I was looking for a convenient place to keep a drink while driving. I had already noticed the usual cup holders, of course, but this particular feature goes a little further than simply giving you somewhere to put your drink.
It can actually help with the temperature of your drink.
And that makes it particularly interesting when you think about how often we carry drinks in our cars.
Think about a typical summer journey.
You leave the house with a cold bottle of water or a can of your favourite drink. You put it in the car, start driving, and everything seems fine.
But after you've been driving for a while, especially if the car has been sitting in the sun, your drink can quickly become much warmer than you'd like.
I've definitely experienced this myself.
You take a drink expecting it to be refreshing, only to discover that it has become almost room temperature.
That's where this feature can become surprisingly useful.

My Experience Using It During Hot Summer Drives
Summer is probably when I appreciate this feature the most.
When the weather is hot, I naturally carry more drinks with me when I'm driving. Whether I'm going on a longer journey, doing errands around town, or simply heading out for the day, having a cold drink nearby makes a noticeable difference.
One situation where I find it particularly useful is during longer drives.
Imagine leaving home early in the morning with a cold drink. At the beginning of the journey, it's perfect. You take a few sips, put it back, and continue driving.
But then the journey takes longer than expected.
Maybe there's traffic.
Maybe you make a few stops.
Maybe you have to wait somewhere for a while.
Before you know it, that nice cold drink isn't quite as cold anymore.
This is where I can make use of the feature in my Hyundai.
Instead of simply leaving my drink sitting somewhere in the car and allowing it to gradually warm up, I can use the feature to help keep it cooler.
It might sound like a small thing, but small conveniences can make a surprisingly big difference when you're spending a lot of time behind the wheel.
And during a hot summer, having a cool drink available can be especially enjoyable.
It's Not Just for Cooling Drinks
This is where I think the feature becomes even more interesting.
When people hear about something designed to help with drink temperature, they naturally think about summer.
Cold drink.
Hot weather.
Simple.
But there's another side to it that I really like.
You can also use the feature during winter to help warm up a drink.
And this is something I have found particularly useful on those really cold mornings or evenings.
Imagine you've left a drink in the car overnight.
You get into your Hyundai on a cold winter morning, start the car, and discover that your drink is absolutely freezing.
If you've ever forgotten a bottle of water or another drink in your car overnight during winter, you'll know exactly what I mean.
The car might be warm eventually, but your drink is still sitting there at the same cold temperature it was exposed to overnight.
That's when being able to use this feature in the opposite way can be quite convenient.
Instead of cooling the drink, you can use it to help warm it.
Of course, you should always follow your vehicle's instructions and use suitable containers and temperatures. But the basic idea is incredibly convenient.

Every coffee is greatly appreciated!
One of My Typical Winter Examples
One example that comes to mind is when I leave a drink in the car during a particularly cold night.
The next morning, I get in, and everything inside the car feels cold.
I start the car and turn on the heating.
After a while, the cabin begins to warm up, but the drink is still cold.
Instead of simply accepting that I'm going to have an ice-cold drink on a freezing morning, I can use the feature to help bring the drink up to a more comfortable temperature.
It's one of those situations where you suddenly think:
"Why didn't I know about this before?"
And that's probably the best way to describe my experience with it.
It's not a feature that I would have specifically gone out and searched for when buying a car.
It's something I discovered later and gradually started incorporating into my normal driving routine.

Where Can You Find It?
This is probably the part everyone wants to know.
Where exactly is this feature?
Depending on the specific Kia or Hyundai model, it may be located around the centre console or cup-holder area. However, the exact design and operation can vary significantly between models.
That's important because Kia and Hyundai produce many different vehicles, and not every model or trim level has the same equipment.
Even two vehicles from the same manufacturer can have different features depending on the model year, trim, market and specification.
So don't assume that because my Hyundai has the feature, your Hyundai or Kia definitely will.
It's worth checking your owner's manual, looking around the centre console and cup-holder area, and checking the specifications for your particular vehicle.
Sometimes the feature is quite easy to miss.
And that's exactly why I wanted to talk about it.
Why I Think Many Owners Might Miss It
Modern car interiors can be surprisingly complicated.
There are buttons everywhere.
There are screens.
There are menus.
There are switches.
There are storage compartments.
There are little symbols that you might not immediately understand.
As a result, it's very easy to overlook something that isn't used every day.
When you first get a car, you usually spend your time learning the important things.
You learn how to start it.
You learn how to adjust the seats.
You learn the infotainment system.
You figure out the lights, indicators, wipers and climate controls.
After that, you might gradually discover other features.
That's what happened to me.
The more time I spent with my Hyundai, the more I began noticing little things that I hadn't paid much attention to when I first got the car.
And this particular feature stood out because it is genuinely practical.
A Perfect Feature for Road Trips
I think this feature makes even more sense when you're going on a road trip.
When you're driving for several hours, you naturally want to have drinks and snacks with you.
Stopping at a petrol station every hour just to buy another cold drink isn't always convenient, especially when you're already carrying what you need.
On a long summer journey, I'll often have a drink with me from the beginning.
Being able to keep it cooler for longer is a nice little luxury.
It's not something dramatic.
But when you're sitting in traffic on a hot day, the air conditioning is running, the sun is coming through the windows, and you're tired from driving, reaching for a cool drink can be one of those little moments that makes the journey more comfortable.
The same applies during winter.
On a long cold-weather journey, having a warm drink can be much more enjoyable than reaching for something that has been sitting in a freezing car.
Again, it's a small convenience, but those small conveniences add up.
How I Personally Use the Feature
For me, the biggest advantage is flexibility.
I don't use it every time I drive.
If I'm only going to the shops five minutes away, there's really no need.
But when I know I'll be driving for a longer period, that's when I start thinking about it.
During summer, I might put a suitable drink in the designated area and use the cooling function.
For example, if I'm going on a long drive, I can start with a cold drink and use the feature to help maintain a more enjoyable temperature rather than simply allowing the drink to warm up inside the car.
During winter, I'll use the idea in reverse.
If a suitable drink has been left in the car overnight and has become extremely cold, I can use the warming function to help make it more comfortable to drink.
It's particularly nice when you get into the car on a cold morning and don't want everything you touch to feel like it has been stored in a refrigerator.

It's One of Those "Small but Clever" Features
I think this is why I like it so much.
Cars today are packed with technology.
Some features are incredibly sophisticated.
You can have cameras that give you a 360-degree view around the vehicle. You can have systems that monitor traffic, keep you in your lane and adjust your speed.
Those features are obviously impressive.
But sometimes it's the simple things that make you smile.
A feature that helps keep your drink cool during a hot summer journey or warm it during a freezing winter morning isn't going to appear on the front page of a car magazine.
But if you actually use your car every day, these little conveniences can become surprisingly valuable.
That's been my experience.

Don't Assume Your Car Has It
There's one important point I want to make before anyone goes looking for this feature.
Feature availability can vary depending on the specific Kia or Hyundai model, trim level, model year and market.
So please don't assume that your vehicle has it just because you've seen it in another Kia or Hyundai.
Manufacturers often offer different specifications depending on the country where the vehicle is sold.
Equipment can also change between trim levels.
A feature available on a higher-specification model might not be included on an entry-level version.
Even the design and controls can be different from one vehicle generation to another.
That's why the safest approach is to check your vehicle's owner's manual and specifications.
Have a look around the centre console and cup-holder area as well.
You might be surprised by what you find.

I Decided to Make a Video About It
Because this is one of those features that's much easier to understand when you can actually see it, I decided to make a YouTube video showing exactly how it works.
In the video, I show where to find the feature in my Hyundai and demonstrate how I use it.
If you're the kind of person who prefers watching someone demonstrate something rather than reading instructions, the video will probably be much easier for you.
You can see the controls, the location and the process rather than trying to imagine everything from a written description.
If you prefer the video version instead of reading the blog, check out my YouTube video where I demonstrate exactly how to find and use this feature.
I also decided not to reveal everything in the video description because, honestly, I think it's more fun when you discover the feature for yourself.
Sometimes the surprise is part of the experience.
Why I Didn't Put Everything in the Video Description
When I created the video, I deliberately kept the description fairly simple.
I could have written exactly what the feature does and where to find it.
But then you would already know everything before watching.
Where's the fun in that?
I wanted people to watch the video and see the feature in action.
There's something satisfying about discovering one of those hidden or overlooked features yourself.
It's similar to finding a hidden compartment or discovering a shortcut on your phone that you never knew existed.
You immediately start wondering what other things you've missed.
And that's exactly what happened to me with my Hyundai.
Once I started paying more attention to the smaller features, I began looking at the car differently.

A Useful Companion for Summer
If I had to choose the season when I find this feature most useful, I'd probably say summer.
Hot weather can make a car feel uncomfortable very quickly.
Even if the air conditioning is working perfectly, anything left inside the vehicle can become surprisingly warm.
That's why I like having the option to help keep my drink cooler.
On a long summer drive, it's especially useful.
I might be heading somewhere several hours away, and rather than constantly stopping to buy another drink, I can carry one with me and make use of the feature.
It's convenient, simple and doesn't require much thought once you've become familiar with it.
But Winter Is Where It Gets Interesting
At the same time, I think the winter use is something people might overlook.
We're so used to thinking about keeping drinks cold that we sometimes forget that warming a drink can be equally useful.
A drink left overnight in a cold car can become unpleasantly cold.
On a freezing morning, especially when you're already sitting in a cold vehicle waiting for the heating to do its job, having a warmer drink can be a nice little comfort.
It reminds me that good car design isn't always about making a vehicle more powerful or technologically advanced.
Sometimes it's simply about making everyday life a little easier.

My Favourite Thing About Discovering Features Like This
The biggest lesson I've taken from this experience is that it's worth spending a little time learning your car.
You don't necessarily need to read the entire owner's manual from beginning to end.
Although, to be honest, there are probably plenty of useful things in there that most of us never read.
Instead, every now and then, have a look around.
Try some of the buttons.
Explore the menus.
Check the storage areas.
Look at the symbols.
You might discover something that you've been missing for months.
That's exactly what happened to me.
And now that I know about this feature, I can see myself using it whenever the situation calls for it.
A Small Feature That Became Part of My Driving Routine
I wouldn't say this feature is the reason I chose my Hyundai.
It isn't.
But once I discovered it, it became one of those little things that I appreciate.
That's probably the best way to describe modern cars.
You buy them for the big reasons, but you end up enjoying many of the small details.
For me, this is one of those details.
In summer, I can use it to help keep my drink cool.
In winter, I can use it to help warm a suitable drink that has become very cold after being left in the car.
And when I'm going on a long journey, it becomes one more little convenience that makes the drive more comfortable.
Have You Discovered It in Your Kia or Hyundai?
Now I'm curious whether other Kia and Hyundai owners have discovered this feature.
Maybe you've had your car for years and have been using it all along.
Or maybe, like me, you didn't pay much attention to it at first.
Either way, it's worth checking your particular vehicle.
Remember that the feature isn't available on every Kia or Hyundai, and its operation can vary depending on the model, trim, model year and market.
So check your own vehicle before assuming that it has the same equipment.
And if you do have it, give it a try.
You might find yourself using it more often than you expect.
If you want to see exactly how I use the feature in my own Hyundai, I've also made a YouTube video demonstrating the whole process, including where to find it and how I use it during my drives. If you prefer watching a demonstration instead of reading about it, the video is probably the easiest way to see what I'm talking about.
Final Thoughts
Sometimes the best car features aren't the ones that make the biggest headlines.
They're the ones that quietly make everyday life a little easier.
This feature was one of those discoveries for me.
I didn't expect it to become something I'd actually use, but after finding it, I started thinking about all the situations where it could be useful.
A hot summer road trip?
Keep your drink cooler.
A long drive on a warm day?
You've got a refreshing drink waiting for you.
A freezing winter morning?
You can use the feature to help warm a suitable drink that was left in the cold.
It's a simple idea, but it's a clever one.
And that's what I like about it.
My Hyundai has plenty of impressive technology, but sometimes it's the small, unexpected features that make me appreciate the car even more.
So, if you own a Kia or Hyundai, take a few minutes to explore your car.
Check the centre console.
Look around the cup-holder area.
Read through the relevant section of your owner's manual.
You might discover a feature you've been overlooking.
And if you do, don't keep it to yourself.
I'd love to hear from other Kia and Hyundai owners about the hidden or overlooked features they've discovered in their cars.
Because if there's one thing I've learned from this experience, it's that you never really know everything your car can do until you take the time to look.
