BMW Wants to Delete the Instrument Cluster And It Might Change Cars Forever

Image
For more than a century, every car has followed the same basic idea: You sit behind a steering wheel. You look through it. And directly behind it lives a cluster of gauges. Speed. Range. RPM. Warnings. Information. That rectangle whether mechanical needles or digital screens became one of the most recognizable objects in automotive design. Subscribe Enjoying my DIY car content? BMW is now asking a radical question: What if the instrument cluster simply disappeared? With the arrival of the Neue Klasse generation, BMW is replacing the traditional driver display with something that feels closer to science fiction than automotive evolution: a panoramic projection stretching across the base of the windshield, turning the glass itself into the primary interface...

2026 Toyota Sienna A New‑Era Family Hybrid Minivan.

2026 Toyota Sienna A New‑Era Family Hybrid Minivan.

The 2026 Toyota Sienna arrives as a fully redesigned, hybrid‑only family minivan, continuing Toyota’s focus on efficiency and usability rather than traditional petrol/diesel options. It’s built around practicality for families, with modern tech, safety, and flexible seating.

Toyota Sienna 2026

Powertrain & Efficiency

  • Hybrid only: All new Siennas use a 2.5‑litre four‑cylinder gasoline hybrid system with an e‑CVT that produces about 245 hp combined and excellent everyday fuel economy.
  • AWD available: Toyota’s Electronic On‑Demand AWD is offered across several trims, giving better all‑weather confidence (especially relevant in UK winters).
  • Fuel efficiency: Around 35–36 mpg combined (estimated), depending on drive type (FWD vs AWD).

There are no petrol‑only versions, diesels, or plug‑in options confirmed for Europe yet though a PHEV version has been discussed in some speculative sources (but not officially confirmed for the UK market at launch).

Trim Levels & What You Get

The 2026 Sienna comes in a variety of trims and while this list is based on US/press info, it gives a strong sense of likely UK‑market specifications and features too:

  • LE: Entry model with solid family features 8‑speaker audio, power sliding doors, blind‑spot monitoring.
  • XLE: Adds convenience like hands‑free doors, SofTex® seats, sunroof.
  • XSE: Sportier look and suspension tuning with premium interior touches.
  • Woodland Edition: Standard AWD, slightly raised ride height and rugged mats, tow hitch, and unique styling great for family outdoor adventures.
  • Limited / Platinum: Top‑tier trims with leather, upgraded JBL® audio, digital cluster, and other luxury‑leaning touches.

Safety tech is comprehensive, with Toyota Safety Sense features (adaptive cruise, lane assist, pedestrian detection) and an Advanced Rear Seat Reminder system to help prevent leaving kids/pets behind.

Colours & Options UK Prospects

Based on UK pre‑release info (e.g., Autogiz UK), likely exterior colours include:

  • Celestial Silver Metallic
  • Midnight Black Metallic
  • Wind Chill Pearl
  • Magnetic Gray Metallic
  • Cypress, Blueprint, Ruby Flare Pearl
  • Ice Cap and Cement tones also reported in Toyota’s palette listings.

Specific UK trim naming and standard equipment packages may differ from US spec, but expectation is that Toyota UK will offer a broad choice of colours and optional tech packs closer to the launch late 2025 / 2026.

How It Compares to Toyota MPV History Verso and More

If you’re a fan of the now‑long‑gone Toyota Verso/Corolla Verso‑style MPVs, it’s important to set expectations:

  • Toyota’s last UK MPVs like the Verso and smaller MPVs were discontinued years ago, largely due to shrinking demand and the rise of SUVs.
  • The Sienna is much larger and differently positioned it’s a full‑size family minivan rather than a compact MPV like the Verso. There’s no similar compact Toyota MPV in the current UK lineup from Toyota itself.

The classic MPV market has largely vanished in the UK and Europe as buyers shifted towards SUVs, crossovers, and versatile hatchbacks. Even the Proace Verso (a larger van‑derived people carrier) was discontinued in diesel form here, now only returning as an electric variant but that’s a very different vehicle from the Sienna focus.

So while the Sienna doesn’t replace Verso in size or segment, it does demonstrate that Toyota still supports family‑oriented practical vehicles just in a larger, hybrid format rather than a compact MPV.

Should Verso Fans Wait or Move Now?

Wait If:

  • You’re specifically looking for a compact MPV sized like the old Verso Toyota doesn’t currently offer one in the UK, and there’s no sign of one returning.
  • You want a true crossover alternative that’s more car‑like in driving feel and size. SUVs/CCVs might better fit that bill than a big minivan.

Buy / Consider If:

  • You need lots of seating, space, flexibility, and hybrid efficiency. The Sienna beats pretty much every SUV or crossover in outright interior room and comfort.
  • You like modern safety tech, family first‑class comfort, and don’t need diesel/petrol only options.

In other words, the Sienna isn’t a Verso replacement in the same class, but it is arguably the closest thing Toyota now offers for large families needing people‑carrier practicality just at the other end of the size spectrum.

Bottom Line

The 2026 Toyota Sienna is a major step forward in tech, comfort, and hybrid‑only efficiency for big families, with broad trim choices, AWD options, and contemporary safety and infotainment. It won’t bring back the compact MPV vibe that Verso owners loved, but if your priority today is space and comfort with modern efficiency and tech it’s worth serious consideration for UK buyers.
