BMW Wants to Delete the Instrument Cluster And It Might Change Cars Forever

Image
For more than a century, every car has followed the same basic idea: You sit behind a steering wheel. You look through it. And directly behind it lives a cluster of gauges. Speed. Range. RPM. Warnings. Information. That rectangle whether mechanical needles or digital screens became one of the most recognizable objects in automotive design. Subscribe Enjoying my DIY car content? BMW is now asking a radical question: What if the instrument cluster simply disappeared? With the arrival of the Neue Klasse generation, BMW is replacing the traditional driver display with something that feels closer to science fiction than automotive evolution: a panoramic projection stretching across the base of the windshield, turning the glass itself into the primary interface...

What’s Wrong with UK Drivers?

Tailgating, Phones, and Ego: What’s Wrong with UK Drivers?

If you’ve ever been stuck behind someone inching along the M25 while they text, or had a car practically breathe down your neck on the A1, you’re not alone. UK drivers have a reputation and the stats back it up. From tailgating to mobile phone use, road rage, and ego-driven maneuvers, there’s a lot going on behind the wheel.

UK Drivers Whats Wrong

1. Tailgating: A National Pastime?

Did you know that nearly 1 in 3 UK drivers admit to following too closely at some point? Tailgating isn’t just rude it’s dangerous. According to the RAC, tailgating causes hundreds of serious accidents every year, often turning minor fender-benders into full-blown crashes. Yet somehow, we see it every day, like it’s a natural part of commuting.

2. Phones Are Everywhere

Despite strict laws, mobile phone use while driving remains rampant. Road Safety Foundation research shows that around 3,000 accidents annually involve mobile phones, and yet drivers are still scrolling, typing, and even filming while moving at 70mph. Some drivers think hands-free is safe but studies suggest it’s the mental distraction, not just the hands, that matters.

3. Ego Behind the Wheel

Let’s not forget the psychology: UK drivers are known for their “me first” approach. Aggressive overtaking, refusing to let others merge, and road rage incidents all point to one thing: ego-driven driving. Psychologists say that driving gives some people a sense of temporary power, which can be dangerous for everyone else on the road.

4. Roundabouts and Lane Confusion

Even roundabouts arguably the hallmark of UK driving cause chaos. Confusion over lane discipline and signalling isn’t just frustrating; it contributes to accidents and road rage. Some drivers treat roundabouts like their personal racetrack, cutting others off and ignoring rules entirely.

5. What Can Be Done?

From stricter enforcement and heavier fines to better driver education, experts suggest that changing UK driving culture is a long road. But social pressure can help: shaming dangerous behaviour online and discussing it in communities may nudge people toward safer habits.
