BMW Wants to Delete the Instrument Cluster And It Might Change Cars Forever

Image
For more than a century, every car has followed the same basic idea: You sit behind a steering wheel. You look through it. And directly behind it lives a cluster of gauges. Speed. Range. RPM. Warnings. Information. That rectangle whether mechanical needles or digital screens became one of the most recognizable objects in automotive design. Subscribe Enjoying my DIY car content? BMW is now asking a radical question: What if the instrument cluster simply disappeared? With the arrival of the Neue Klasse generation, BMW is replacing the traditional driver display with something that feels closer to science fiction than automotive evolution: a panoramic projection stretching across the base of the windshield, turning the glass itself into the primary interface...

Tesla’s Future Plans: The Road Ahead

Tesla has long been synonymous with electric vehicles (EVs) and innovation. As the company continues to expand globally, its future plans reflect both technological ambition and market growth. Here’s a look at what lies ahead for Tesla as it moves deeper into the second half of the decade.

Expansion of the Model Lineup

Tesla’s future lineup is expected to grow beyond its core vehicles. While the Model 3 and Model Y continue to be bestsellers, Tesla is actively working on new models to broaden its reach:

  • Cybertruck — Production has already begun, but Tesla plans to ramp up deliveries worldwide. The angular, futuristic pickup is designed not just for utility but as a showcase of Tesla’s engineering boldness.
  • Roadster (Next-Gen) — Positioned as a halo car, the new Roadster will focus on extreme performance, range, and cutting-edge design, reinforcing Tesla’s image as a leader in EV innovation.
  • Robotaxi/Compact Car — Tesla has hinted at a mass-market compact vehicle aimed at affordability and wide adoption, potentially launching by the mid-2020s. This could be central to Tesla’s mission of accelerating sustainable transport.

Energy Storage and Solar

Beyond vehicles, Tesla is doubling down on energy storage solutions and solar technology. The company’s Megapack systems are being deployed globally to stabilize power grids, while Powerwall solutions are becoming increasingly popular for home energy storage. Tesla’s solar roof technology also continues to evolve, though scaling production remains a key challenge.

Autonomy and AI

One of Tesla’s most ambitious goals lies in autonomy. The company is pushing forward with Full Self-Driving (FSD) software development. While not yet fully autonomous, Tesla envisions a future where FSD underpins a robotaxi network, allowing Tesla owners to earn income by sharing their cars when not in use. Achieving this will rely heavily on continued progress in AI, neural networks, and real-world driving data.

Manufacturing Expansion

Tesla’s global footprint is also set to expand. With Gigafactories already operating in the U.S., China, and Germany, Tesla has plans to add more production sites:

  • Mexico Gigafactory — Announced as a major site for next-gen vehicle production, particularly focused on affordability and efficiency.
  • Further Global Sites — Additional Gigafactories are expected, strategically located to serve growing EV demand in Europe, Asia, and beyond.

This expansion supports not just vehicles but also Tesla’s energy products, ensuring scale and cost reductions.

Battery Innovation

Tesla’s breakthroughs in battery technology remain central to its strategy. The development of the 4680 cell promises higher energy density, reduced costs, and improved performance. Scaling production of these cells will be critical to enabling more affordable vehicles and longer ranges.

Sustainability and Vertical Integration

Tesla’s long-term vision includes deeper vertical integration, from mining raw materials to producing batteries and vehicles. By controlling more of the supply chain, Tesla aims to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and ensure sustainable practices in sourcing critical materials like lithium and nickel.

Looking Ahead

Tesla’s future is not just about cars—it’s about creating a fully integrated ecosystem of clean energy, autonomous technology, and sustainable manufacturing. While challenges remain in scaling, regulation, and competition, Tesla’s plans demonstrate its intent to remain a pioneering force in shaping the global transition to renewable energy and electric mobility.

Final Thought: Tesla’s next chapter will be defined by its ability to deliver on affordability, autonomy, and sustainable energy at scale. If successful, it won’t just transform the automotive industry—it will reshape the very foundation of how energy and mobility intersect in our daily lives.
