Omoda E5 — Compact Electric SUV: What It Is, What’s Under the Skin, and Why It’s Interesting

The Omoda E5 is a compact, value-focused electric crossover that combines modern styling, a single-motor front-drive layout, and a 60 kWh-class battery into a family-friendly package. It’s designed for drivers who want modern EV technology without premium pricing, and it’s already launched in several global markets.

Powertrain & Motor

  • Motor type: Front-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM)

  • Output: Around 150 kW (≈204 hp) and 340 Nm of torque

  • Drive: Front-wheel drive

This setup delivers lively performance for its class — the Omoda E5 accelerates from 0–100 km/h in about 7.2–7.6 seconds, offering smooth and quiet electric torque in everyday driving.

Battery, Range & Charging

  • Battery capacity: About 61 kWh (gross), with roughly 60 kWh usable

  • Battery type: Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) “blade” style cells, designed for safety and long cycle life

  • Range (WLTP): Up to 430 km on a full charge

  • DC fast charging: Peak power around 80 kW (30–80 % in roughly 28 minutes)

  • AC charging: Onboard charger between 6.6 kW and 11 kW (depending on market), for a full charge in 3–8 hours

In everyday use, energy consumption sits around 15–16 kWh per 100 km, which helps the E5 achieve its competitive driving range.

Boot / Luggage Capacity

  • Boot volume: Approximately 380 litres with seats up, expanding to 1,075 litres with the rear seats folded

With 80 kW DC fast-charging capability, the E5 can gain a useful top-up during a short break, though it’s not among the fastest-charging models in its class. For daily commuting, its efficient drivetrain and robust LFP battery chemistry make charging straightforward and cost-effective.
